Mainly because, each day, we see more intolerant measures taken in every aspect of the daily life in our country.
Academy is one of the most wounded fields.
Around five thousand academics from 112 universities have been discharged by 5 Statutory Decrees since September 2016.
With the last Decree of last week, almost all of the academics teaching at the Political Sciences Faculty of Ankara University (Mülkiye) – which I graduated from, were expelled. This means students will not be able to take some of the modules due to lack of professors.

And if you are interested in helping out the academics in Turkey, have a look at this piece telling more about how you can support.
I have been drafting a post on how to keep sanity in these hard and dark times, I will probably share it with you this week.
One of the tips I have is to keep learning and experiencing new things -be it an entirely alien subject or just a new genre of music or book. This is what I like most about My Weekly Suggestions, I guess. Starting from the very first week of the year, I have this urge of discovering new things and sharing them with you.
Here come this week’s suggestions:
Book: The Wayfinders
If you are interested in social anthropology, it is a fantastic book to go for. Sometimes it might be difficult to follow, as it tells fascinating stories about various indigenous cultures one after another.
TV Series: Taboo
Ready to see Tom Hardy as a badass adventurer who returns home from Africa after his father’s death and decides to build his shipping business by standing up against the East Indian Company?
Film: The Lion
This is a story of a young Indian boy who gets lost and faces many challenges till he has been adopted by an Australian couple. I have been extremely touched by it. I think mainly because it is based on actual events. Definitely worth watching!
